Man Things?

Okay, I have this confusion going on in my brain, and it won't go away.

My husband has been telling us all for months that money is tight, no room for a lot of the miscellaneous luxuries we occasionally splurge on.

Soooo, he comes home yesterday, telling me this extremely long drawn out story, that ends with the fact that he had just purchased a BRAND NEW STILL SEALED IN THE BOX $3000.00 surround sound system, for the astoundingly low price of $400.00. And no, he doesn't think it was stolen property. Oh there is no way he could pass up that deal. Ooooooookay.

Next area of confusion...The Military Channel? Oh please, we have The History Channel, we have The Discovery Channel, we have The Science Channel. So an entire channel devoted to the history of war machines....please please NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Don't get me wrong, there are some shows on the above channels that I do enjoy, I like Mythbusters, I like the ...hmm..dirty jobs show, I liked the fleet of fishing ships show...whatever that was called.....but really I have no desire to become an expert on the B47, nor the B52.

Why can't we just watch the Sci Fi channel, or ESPN? I am actually beginning to miss those really bad made-for-the-sci-fi-channel-movies!

So are these shows just another version of boys and their toys?

Please please enlighten me.

Nodding and understanding... and I'll bet the 'luxuries' weren't really that either!!

Boy and their toys hon....they are wired differently from us...they want to know how far it can shoot and we just want to make sure it felt good being shot....if you know what I mean ;)

Like I said in my email to you...if only they could be more like us...but with willies!

Bustyhugs

Yes, yes they are. Though I do love Mythbusters and Dirty Jobs, a guilty pleasure of Dog the Bounty Hunter, and all that... my thing is tech toys, so TechTV was great before it got bought out and sucky and a gaming channel.

I new some guys who used to sell the fell off the truck stereo systems (I bet the line was we overpurchased them and need to get rid of them). It's easy to say they are worth thousands of dollars, but they are such crappy knock-off parts and bought in China for about $50. Just watch it doesn't catch fire.

It is absolutely a boys and their toys situation and you are absolutely right. Don't criticize if you don't want to throw stones inside your glass house though. Sometime at some point you'll be in the same situation and wonder if it's OK to splurge.

Fi--Yep you are right, just little things that really seemed more a control thing than anything else...

Hmmm trying to picture a male me/with a willy *L* OH GOD NO!

Plano--This TV thing seems to me to be way out of control...did you know there is now a station just for babies?! 6 months to 3 years?! I know there are womens channels, but me not being much of viewer of TV in general I usually just watch whatever anyone is...but...the military channel really threw me.

I looked up the system, unless the packaging and all is very well counterfeited..it is a top of the line current system...he is very technical himself..so that wasn't a worry to me...its just...I get derogatory comments for buying a $20 book???...sigh boys and toys...

Phil--it is rare that I criticize, I am far from perfect in any area of my life....and I did look it at in this way.....He spends his downtime in front of the TV...I spend mine in front of the computer....soooo ~smile~ when I decide I am gonna buy that new laptop, or upgrade the computer...huh uh...no way can he criticize me!

DG-- I knew one of you good ol' boys would bring that up..gotta say though, my husband has purchased from home shopping network....never me....as to other women's channels...again maybe I just don't watch enough tv...never watch them...don't get me wrong...i am a fan of chick flicks....but I guess I bore easily...rather read a book..or blog...or read blogs....or...ummmm...*wink*

Fraid I never tell the exact price of anything I buy, but I spend days considering whether it's a 'want' or a 'need', and the need will usually win. If my wife wants something, then she can have it, if we can afford it. No questions asked.

Lephare--she is a lucky woman :)

I was born without the shopping gene....and have never been given gifts.

I was once told that I'm not the kind of woman who needs gifts.

WTF does that mean??!!

No shopping gene Fiona?
What about shoes?
Never known a lady who didn't like shoes ;-)

Lephare..maybe if they are purple..then the three of us can go together! As long as there is not too much browsing...am an go in, find it, buy it, get out, kinda shopper myself...

hahaha nope not even shoes!!!

I have 3 black pairs for work (varying heel height depending on my mood or requirement to literally step it up)....I have a pair of trainers....two pairs of 'slides' and a pair of closed flats...one pair of flip flops

and that is it ....no sexy strappy sandals even...I'm not too much of a 'girly girl'...just a practical scotslass *L*

my big wide feet could have something to do with it...I grew up barefoot or in flip flops...to this day I HATE wearing anything on my feet....kind of made them splay a bit...not an attractive look in barely-there heels!!
